Well go to a Borders or Barnes and Noble book store. Get them these books out now that are really cool. For example for the girl, you could get her this one book about Fairies. The outside cover had a big jewel on it and when you open the book it is like an adventure with all kinds of odd things in it. This is not a regular book. And for the boy of course everything is about pirates now. They have one for pirates and on the cover is the top of a spy glass so it looks like you are looking at a ship far off. When you open that book it is like an adventure for a pirate with all kinds of maps and things that are not just attached to the book but you remove them. They are really neat books out and they both only cost a piece 14.95. Merry Christmas!

Eight-year-old boys
The Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes is great. (I think I saw this at TARGET in the toy section. They probably have it at TOYS R US and Walmart.) I got this for my cousin and he LOVED it. It comes with several sheets of decorated paper and detailed instruction for building several types of planes.

LEGOS are always a good pick. Bionicle figures are about $9 each and go over big with boys. There's also a really cool LEGO fire helicopter that's only about $10, and a new LEGO theme (aqua raiders) currently only available at TOYS R US.

The NERF WEATHER BLITZ ALL WEATHER FOOTBALL is also available at stores everywhere. It's a great ball with hand guides and never needs to be pumped. It's also easy to clean. Transformers are also big. This year, there are Star Wars transformers, too. Characters turn into Star Wars-style spaceships.

I say, get any two of these items, and get the little girl some candy of her own, and you're golden.

How about a remote control car or truck...You can get them in many price ranges and they're available everywhere other toys are. Skateboards, sports equipment (footballs, etc), Lego kits, handheld games, all have prices varying under $20. Find out what interests him and go from there...

Okay, well if the boy is eight then i would get him something with games. I would get him a board game, or a 10 dollar hand held game.
