This was an Airwick brand distributed by Reckitt Benckiser. I am not asking for help on fixing the floor, rather trying to find out if others have had problems with their hot oil type fresheners leaking.

Reckitt Benckiser has requested that I send the unit back to them for evaluation, however currently there is no damage to the wick or anywhere else on the unit, and I have no control over what happens to the unit once I send it to them.

One thing for certain, I will not allow these things anywhere near my home in the future.

Yes - I had the same problem, also by an Airwick air freshner. I was lucky in that the unit was plugged in an outlet over my guest bathroom sink. I didn't notice it straight away, but when I saw it, I cleaned it up. The marble vanity was not stained at all, so I was really lucky. I don't use the scented oils in the outlets anymore. I use concentrated oil fragrances in potpourri. The smell isn't quite as strong as the electric units, but I read something somewhere about them being a fire hazard if they weren't changed regularly.

Sorry about your hardwood floors... hopefully it's in an inconspicuous area and people won't notice it too much. If you can find a reputable hardware floor specialist, they should be able to color match the stain on the boards and cut out those with damage. I had to replace two boards in my kitchen and they did it without any problem at all.

Good luck! I hope this information helps.

Please send the unit to the manufacturer, and do not spoil their reputation. It is unfair. Every manufacturer may have a problem with machinery and so on , allow them to solve the problem and please be forgiving and maybe you will reap the rewards of your generosity--the manufacturer might surprise you with a generous compensation, for example. Ask them for a tip how to remove the stain from your floor, maybe they know how. In the future use the product or not, it is up to you; for now have a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

While there may be a problem with the product, you also need to consider that there might have been an electrical surge in your power system that caused the oil overheat and expand out of its container, so you may wish to have your electrical system checked as well. Could have been an anomaly, could be faulty wiring. Up to you whether you decided to have that checked.

I have the Lysol air neutralizer plug-ins, & it leaks a tiny bit regularly. I too have hardwood floors, but I must just have noticed it pretty quickly after it happened b/c it cleaned up easily & didn't leave a stain. Now i know to keep checking the floor underneath to keep it tidied up.

Mine wasn't even plugged in and it did that all over my desk. Bull that dont blame the company. It shouldn't happen if it is not even plugged in!
