208 volts is the voltage between two legs of a three phase circuit.

they get the 120 from a hot leg and a neautral if you need just 208 for a certain purpose use a transformer to step it down to 208 but if yyou are looking for something to run on just 208 or 240 you are well within the 10% range and should not have any problems

Bill M is right on. You need a 3 phase service (transformer, entrance cable, meter and panel). Some motors are 208/240 with minor wiring changes.

120 or 240 volts are possible. Most likely a 240 circuit with voltage drop.

zThese guys are right on the money about the 208 situation. Now 277v, is the mid tap on a delta transformer in a comercial environment, also 3 phase..

just instal a 220 breaker in the panel and you will have 208/220 volts

The voltage listed on the panel is a nominal rateing. The actual voltage is supplied by the utilitiy company in your area.
