Place the tie around your neck with the narrow side on the left and the wide side on the right (wind end hanging significantly lower than the narrow end). Cross the wide side over the narrow side. Bring the wide side behind the narrow side. Now here's the tricky part. Continue to wrap the wide side around the front of the cross you just made and pull the wide end through the neck loop from the back side (up from the bottom side). Now, tuck the wide end through the part that wraps around the original cross and pull tight.
The up side to the half Windsor is that the knot is a bit narrower and it takes one less step to tie. The down side is that the knot is a bit lopsided since it leaves out a step that the full Windsor has to even out the support structure of the knot.
