Ok I've had alot of friends who have experienced this painful occurence try these things
* Metamuceil ( i am not sure if I spelled it correctly) it comes in an orange bottle you can buy from the grocery of any of these general shops like walmart of Target (you mix a good sized table spoon in either juice or water and drink it down, u can buy it in orange flavor if you dont' want to taste the regular one, I recommend it, very tasty and it will work on getting the constipation down)
* Eat alot of prunes, beans, raisen bran ceral or bran, or even califlower works just as good.
* if these 2 dont' work you need to see a doctor especially if there is bleeding
*I hope you are ok!

Since you are in the condition you are in, I highly recommend an enema. It's not that hard to do. You have to use it lying down on your side and RELAX. Hold the liquid in as long as you can, which will only be a few minutes. This will only clean out your lower bowel and give you temporary relief. It won't help the whole problem. (Actually, since they are very cheap, I'd buy two, in case you mess up doing it the first time)
I hope you like yogart. There's a new product in the grocery stores that I can definitely swear by. It is called "Activia" and it is in the dairy section of the store alongside Dannon & the other yogart. It has a green label and it guarantees to regulate your digestive system in 2 weeks or less. Just one little serving a day will do the trick and I love this stuff - - - it comes in all kinds of great flavors. Actually, I think it only takes 2-3 days to work and much better than taking laxatives or yukky prune juice! Even if you don't like yogart, you can get a big tablespoon and have it choked down in 4 bites or less.
Another option would be to take Citricil regularly. That is a fiber laxitive that is in powder form and you mix it with cold water and chase it down with another glass of cold water. It's orange flavor and tastes like Tang, but doesn't dissolve 100% so you'd have to drink it fast. Do this twice a day and then drop down to once a day when you get regular. It takes a few days to start working, but I'm suggesting this as a preventative. These 2 products are the only ones I've been impressed with, and I'm the type that no matter how much water I drink or fiber I eat, nothing works well.

Since you just took ex-lax and Milk of Mag give it some time to do it's job. Being constipated is very uncomfortable and can be down right painful. Continue to take your stool softener. But you really need to be careful how much your dosing your system with ex-lax, milk of mag and stool softeners, what will happen is after you pass the stool you will end up in sheer misery from diarrhea. If within a couple of hours you don't have any results call your doctor and see if he recommends an enema, you can buy these at your local drug store and you only use one and it can be messy so protect your linens and clothing. It can be dificult for some to give them self an enema, so you may need a little help. Your doctor may ask to see you before he prescribes or has you do anything else. After this episode of constipation you need to monitor your bowel habits to make sure this dosen't happen again. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon!!!

I went through a period of time where I only went to the bathroom once or maybe twice a week. It was awful. Usually I found that if I just gave it time and didn't try too hard, eventually it would pass, but in some cases it may be necessary to get medical attention, as you could be impacted. For some reason I also find that bananas help if I need to go but can't. A piece of advice so this doesn't happen again: eat plenty of fiber, drink lots of water, and NEVER try to hold it - when you have to go, go! Holding it is what has messed me up in the past.

Go to walgreens and get an enema ASAP! I use to have IBS, and instead of taking prescriptions, my sister (shes an RN) told me to drink Coffee every day, even if its just a small cup, the fiber will help. So I do, and Im completely regular now. I know how painful constipation can be, so DEF use an enema and buy a coffee maker. Good luck

After you fix this problem with a laxative or enema you can eat Fiber cereal every morning. If you do this everyday you will go regularly and it will be of the right consistency. I heard it from Dr. Oz and I've felt good ever since.

If you take laxatives on a regular basis, they tend to not help so much.
Eat celery...or a nice crisp apple...don't take any more laxatives. you can really hurt yourself. BUT, drink a cup of prune juice, and see what happens.
When i had my cesarean, that was a common problem. They gave me 1 cup of prune juice and a laxative, and it was done by the next day.

I'm a nurse. Prune juice, apple juice, or try taking some epsom salt. You can drink this read the label. If all fails ask your local phramacist. If still unsuccessful see the doctor. The doctor can give you a stronger medication.

It sounds like you need an enema. When you do this be near a toilet because it's going to come out quickly, whether you're ready for it or not. If it works, you won't have the problem anymore.
