The Dragonrider Series. There are many, many good fantasy books that are old enough they are in used book stores for cheap. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, fantasy and science fiction were being mixed up and matched up and I think the process stimulated fantasy more than science fiction. The next thing you know, there are more fantasy elements in books labeled science fiction, then somebody invents the term "science fantasy," and lots of even more ignorant attempts to label the genres. Currently, the bookstores seem to have much more space dedicated to fantasy than to science fiction, but they no longer make all that much attempt to separate them.
Look for the Earthsea books, for example. But then there is Ringworld, and there is Riverworld. One is considered science fiction, the other is usually labeled fantasy. Both are very different from anything else.

Have you actually read 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings (not just watched the movies)? If not, definitely start with them. Also, you might enjoy Douglas Adams' 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe' series, as well as his other books. They're a bit different than the others you've mentioned, but I enjoyed all of these books...
edit: Oh yeah, and try Eva Ibbotsen's books- cute, fast-paced and funny

"The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien
"The Hero and the Crown" by Robin McKinley
The Harper Hall Trilogy: "Dragonsong", "Dragonsinger" and "Dragon Drums" by Anne McCaffery
The Song of Albion Trilogy: "The Paradise War", "The Silver Hand" and "The Endless Knot" by Stephen Lawhead
Not strictly magical fantasy, but well written in imaginative worlds that someone who likes Harry Potter might like:
"Below The Root" and "And All Between" by Zilpha Keatley Snyder
"A Swiftly Tilting Planet" by Madeline L'Engle

I would highly recommend the Xenogenesis trilogy by Octavia Butler.
She was a Hugo and Nebula award winning science fiction author. I was totally biased toward female sci-fi writers until I read her books. What a great imagination and talent!
