I've had a Dell laptop for two years this week. It seems to me that I have to charge the battery more frequent now.
I'm sure I am using about the same length of time, since I first got it. On the average how often do they have to be replaced. Thanks.

I use the laptop on battery power until it total shuts down. Then I plug it in and use it plugged in until I turn it off. leaving it off for about 3 to 4 hrs. before using it again even then sometimes leaving it plugged in then.

It isn't one of the batteries that Dell recalled.

The average laptop user never fully drains their laptop battery, or when recharging the laptop, they don't fully recharge the laptop either.

Most of the laptops from 2-10 years ago will include batteries that take a little time to "remember" the wrong power levels where at a battery is full or empty.

Unfortunately you are likely staring down the prospect of buying a new battery, and 2-4 years is the average replacement life.

The easiest way to ensure that the battery lasts at it's maximum level is to fully drain the battery by leaving the laptop on, and allowing it to recharge fully at least once a month. Some laptops have software to do this for you, and it will control the discharge and recharge process automatically.

I dont know what kind of laptop you have but Dell recently recalled 4 million batteries because they caused fire. if you are lucky/unlucky yours might be one of those 4 millions.
To answer your question they normally last about 1 - 5 years depends on usage. try this, completely drain the battery then charge it.

Having jsut been by this with my old pc, I recommend you purchase a sparkling one, i purchased a replace battery, and it lasted longer for a pair months yet then right now lost its ability to carry a cost, it now no longer prices up in any respect. This befell over ~3 months. this can be an somewhat undesirable get at the same time, yet its also appropriate. a sparkling pc will very last you longer and probably preform more effective, even with the undeniable fact that it truly is going to likely be a touch extra intense priced. even with the undeniable fact that, there isn't any favor to throw away your old pc, it truly is going to nevertheless function completely with out a battery see you later because it truly is plugged in.

Most laptops (notebook computers) available use Lithium ion rechargeable batteries since they have a low weight and discharge slowly when not in use. However, they last for a shorter time compared to other batteries and can be dangerous when overheated. More information at http://fixit.in/laptopbattery.html

Just how long they last depends on how often they were fully discharged and then fully recharged.

In general rechargeable laptop batteries only last a couple of years.
