on your car it is a high rpm but you should have no problem. the only thing that you would be doin is wasting gas. look at a honda b18c motor (jdm type-r) the motor redline is at 8500 with the rev limiter set at 9500 so with those motors 5000 is normal operating range. but for a 420a or 4g63, depending on your motor......5000 is a little high for those motors. but those motors are strong so i would see no problems

Never mentioned if it was the V6 or the 4. You can burn out the oil rings in the pistons as well as scar the cam shaft and rockers. Is the car now making noise that was not there before? The other thing is the gas mileage will be terrible. Why you planning on racing the car at that speed for a while? There is a lot that can happen to a car that is run at this high of an RPM for that amount of time. Burning holes in pistons, burning holes in water jackets, blowing head gaskets, transmissions, cracking cam shafts, cracking crank shafts. Stock motors are just not designed to hold up to that kind of pressure. If you put good parts in to a motor you where planning on racing, the parts would hold up far better. If you insist on running the car for this long at the RPM’s you claim, use a 20-50 oil with an Additive to help protect the parts and hope the oil pump is able to keep up with the demand. Not to mention the cooling system.

Premature engine wear is what happens. If it holds together it must be a good engine. But why would you beat on it like that. Some engines are made to rev high but I don't believe this is one. If you take a sport motorcycle for example it is just hitting its power band about there. If you take my old truck for another example it will redline and blow about there. Hope this helps!!

you are probably wasting fuel if you are over-revving the engine on long trips.
find out where the efficiency and power bands of your engine are.
use power band for accelleration and hills, use the efficiency band for cruising.
