I asked a question earlier and described a common misconception about black women. Some people responded, accusing me of believing in the stereotype when it was quite obvious I hated the stereotype.
Are people really so thoughtless and unable to think beyond what they WANT to see? Or is it just the good old Internet?

Forgot to add...for anyone who saw/answered that question, that experience didn't happen. I'm in a class that observes human interaction and I got stuck with the Internet project. The answers to that question will probably provide me about 5 pages of a 20 page paper.

I am sorry to say that people are that blind to what is real and what isn't, but on the same hand there are a lot of our race act out the stereotype of black women and it is sad to say that they hurt all black women as a whole. I am from a city where I was around people of all kind of backgrounds, when I joined the military I had a white guy ask me, why I don't talk with my hands and why I am not loud. And the best one that made me laugh out loud was, do I always eat fried chicken with hot sauce and drink Kool-aid. *smiles* At first I wanted to hit him but he came from a town that there wasn't any black people other than one family and that was the way they were. That was 10 years ago, but I am now out of the military but work for it and I work with some white women that are from towns that don't have many black people and I was asked on my first day, why do black men wear their pants below their butt and do all black people think Ebonics is a language. We as black women have to be strong and show the world that we are not all B!tches and sit on welfare and just have children. Sweetheart hold your head up high and just smile at the world because we know who God made us to be, and that is beautiful in all ways.

first of all, anytime people have any type of correspondence thru the internet misconceptions happen because you can't see facial expressions, or hear tone of voice. Wether a person is being sarcastic or funny or mad. Secondly, I don't know what your original question was, but any time you (anyone) uses any kind of stereotype, it perpetuates it. Wether you believe it or not.

Communication is a two way street, you need to ensure that your audience recieves what you're trying to get arcoss. OTOH, many people will read what they want and will jump in without understanding the question.
And lastly the internet is a tool, it does not communicate or actively participate in communication, it's the users that do and that are responsible for their actions.

Some stereotypes are correct and some are not. But people on Y/A usually don't care about the questions they answer. I didn't see your previous question but chances are that people either misinterpreted it or simply jumped to conclusions based on their own prejudice.

some of both, People will read what they WANT to read, and not what is written, look at how ppl interperet the bible.
But also it's hard to get the sarcasm mostof us carry in our voices through writing,
So it's a little of both. I personally laugh at the sterio types
