put the card into the dash and it tells me that the "steering is locked". The service light comes on, the car refuses to start. When the engine is then "turned off" it says "steering not locked". The steering wheel is physically locked the whole time however, I have tried to turn it but it wont budge. My car is stuck on the drive, unable to move. Any Renault whiz kids on here? Thanks J

Is the steering turned fully one way or the other?
The instruction manual says never stop the engine with the steering on full lock, as the electric steering lock will engage, but will have problems disengaging.

If this is the case, then try turning the wheel one way when trying to start the car, and if that fails, try turning it the other way (it will be quite heavy to do this). This worked once on my Mégane.

If the steering is near the straight ahead position, there must be a fault with the wiring or solenoid for the electric steering lock, and you'll probably have to get a dealer to sort it.

Don't understand; put what card into the dash? If the mechanical steering lock is on pull the wheel away from the lock (normally anticlockwise) then turn the key, it should unlock.
Please clarify if you can.

press the key into the key hole & go to start the car, at the same time turn your steering wheel & that should unlock it.

if not call your breakdown service!

Don't know why some people like to give answers when they have absolutly no ideas about cars. They are old fashion and don't know that the cars like yours are keyless and working with the key card .say good bye to them or send them to the classic car sites......anyway, disconnect your battery for 12 h minmum,
check your key card (free at maindealer s) . check that you have 13 volts power . try normal to start ., maybe you are lucky
