i didn't originally want an epi, but i ended up having one for pain. it was great but i had them turn it off when i was ready to push so i could feel myself pushing, otherwise you can't and you're more likely to tear badly.

I had an epidural with all 3 of my labors. My first birth ended in an emergency Csection .... baby was too big to come any other way. But as far as the pain factor. My labors were all induced which is suppose to be 10x worse then natural labor which I didn't find to be true. I only got the epidural so I could be fully alert and not tired out from the contractions when the baby came. There is nothing that compares to the first time seeing the baby and I didnt want that to be hazy.

I have 3 children, 2 of which I have IV pain medicine during labor, and my 3rd child I had an epidural, only because I was getting my tubes tied afterwards. I would not have had it otherwise. With my first 2 births the IV medicine made my labor stop for a few hours, and I was completely concious and aware of my babies when they were born. I had no trouble with my epidural, I just didn't like the way it made my body feel. I don't like being numb. Plus, at one point they had to pump my epi full blast because I was being rushed to have an emergency C-section, then once I got to the operating room, things got better and they decided not to do it. When it was time to push, I couldn't even get my legs up in the stir-up things, my son's father had to literally hold my leg in place(it affected my right side more than my left). After having my son, I had to wait 4 hrs to get my tubes tied, as soon as the edpidural started wearing off....time for surgery...pump it back up.....I would have preferred and IV medicine.

Both of my babies came by C-section. The first was an emergency CS after 22 hours of labor. The epidural was great, and it took the pain away completely. My back did ache for a few months afterward, though.
I had a spinal with my second baby, and didn't do as well. It seems that the spinal didn't relieve as much of the pain. The anesthesiologist hit a nerve, and I had shooting pains down my back into my right leg for several weeks afterward.

I had an epidural because I had really high blood pressure and the nurse actually told me it might be good so I could relax more and keep my blood pressure down. The epidural worked so good that I slept through 15 hours of labor only to wake up to my doctor saying..."we think your pelvic bone is too small, we need to do a C-section". I got sick off the medicine they gave me during my C-section but its not that bad. Just makes your whole lower body go so numb you forget you have legs and its makes you very groggy and sleepy after your baby is born.

My epidural was the result of c-section organised from the outset. Painless but worrisome given the stories I'd heard. I know these days they are infinitely more careful due to the problems of past decades and there really is nothing to worry about now. Despite the numbness I could still feel the doctors hands inside my abdomen during the birth. Not exactly painful, but not exactly painless.

i got the epidural because my nurse encouraged me. she told me my birth would be too long and it was best if i took it so i could be relaxed. i accepted it and i thought it hurt pretty badly. for the first couple of hours, it worked wonders. although my contractions were not too painful, my whole body relaxed, which was great. towards the end the epidural wore out and the anesthesiologist was not able to add enough epidural to numb out the pain again. i ended up having an emergency c-section, and they put me on general anesthesia (so i was completely asleep). my experience with epidural was not the best, but i have heard wonders from people who have had it. i guess it depends on you tolerance for pain, and body...good luck!!!

I had a spinal with my c-section because I wasn't in enought pain for the epidural. It really hurt me when they put in the need because it goes in your spine and can hit a nerve once it was in I was ok but there was about 30 sec of pain and for me it was worse than anything else.

I had 1. I hated it. Apparently the guy did a horrid job of it. I felt the bugger the entire time. The liquid running into my back felt like it was on fire (cold). The pain came back and was horrible. My next 2 births were natural and alot less painful. At least with a natural birth, I expect some pain.

Yes, I had 3 epidurals. (I had 3 babies) No, I didn't have a c-section. Why suffer when you can have an easy birth? It doesn't mean you are weak, it keeps you calm and you get through labor better because your body is able to relax.
