William H. Gates III.
Richest man in America. Depending on the price of Microsoft stock, he's occasionally been the richest man in the world.
He got his start by programming a BASIC interpreter (along with partner Paul Allen) to run on the early "home" hobbyist computer, the Altair 8800. From that beginning, he and Allen founded Microsoft, which provided the BASIC programming language to many of the early home computers.
From the very start, he was against software piracy, saying that he couldn't earn a livelihood as a programmer if the fruits of his labor were given away freely. Bill Gates was a businessman.

Bill Gates is indeed a very wealthy man. His start in business was the stuff of legends. Small idea with big plans. The key thing to note is that the operating system he is cretided with creating was in fact not his. The windows operating sytems was originally developed by IBM. They reject it and hence it was actually stolen by APPLE. They to rejected it. Mainly due to the vast majority of flaws found within the system. Gates then stole it from APPLE.
What has made windows the success that it is is not due to the operating system but rather brilliant marketing strategy by Gates.
Gates detrmined that by donating thousands of machines to schools he would create a generation of people so familiar with his sytem and software that they would buy his. Alas they have and now created a billionaire.
Anyone who does use windows is well aware of the sytem vulnerabilities. But the vast majority are so used to windows that they are afraid to change.
Bill Gates is a brilliant marketing strategist.
