because you are a woman. Change doctors. Unfortunately women's health is really in their own hands. I've learned this the hard way. My mother had the exact same thing happen as your situation. She was practically crippled with migraines for the first 40 years of her life. Every time she went to the doctor he asked her how her marriage was and "what was bothering her?" She finally ended up in the emergency room after an optical migraine and was referred to a specialist. Right away she was diagnosed with migraines and put on a hormone treatment and given imitrex. It's sad, but she was in her 40s before she was allowed to live life without severe pain....all because a doctor thought she was a whinny little girl.

There are a lot of reasons for headaches, not just migraines. be your own detective. Write a headache journal, record what food you eat at what times, record if you are having problems with allergies or sinuses.Record emotions and stressful situations. Also record when it started, where you were at the time, what was going on around you at the time, Like 5pm, car, stuck in traffic.Write down notes like check exhaust, then do it. By ruling out what it is or isn't, you can help your doctor to figure out what it is. And sometimes, you won't need his help at all. If you only get a headache after consuming wine or bacon, then you now know what to do to eliminate the headache. Good luck!

My experience has been, they blow you off about alot of things. If they don't know what's wrong, they don't admit it and send you to someone who does, they give you a script for some medicine the last salesman pitched.

Because they don't know what to do. They should check for underlying causes though.

Not all doctors do. If you are taking over the counter medicine like Advil, and you do not get relief, then let your doctor know that you need something stronger.
