I am nearing the end of a promotional membership of $9.95 per month for DSL. Since I already have Netzero, I will be cancelling the Earthlink service before it goes to $21.95 per month. In the past I've had to cancel with AOL and MSN and both made it into a MAJOR deal - esp. with MSN, it was almost impossible to get them to pull the plug- is Earthlink different, will it be an easy cancellation, or should I prepare for a lengthy, bitter termination process?

They will try to sell you a package but for the most part you'll be able to terminate without any problems. Be polite and just every time they ask or tell you something repeat yourself by saying I wish to cancel my service with you. No matter what they ask say that and then they'll get it done for you.

My son-in -law had such a hassle with AOL. He finally ask them "What part of NO don't you understand ?"
Look at it like this, they are all trying to keep their jobs by selling you on the idea of staying with them. You will just have to remain firm and not show any weakness or it goes on & on.
Why don't you get a service and stick to it, then you won't have this problem cropping up. I get Yahoo free and I had AOL for so many years that when I discontinued them they kept me on. However for the sake of speed I use RoadRunner.
Good luck, I hope I helped you a little.
Have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year !!!

We just switched from Earthlink to a wireless/high-speed internet provider, and canceling went without a hitch. There shouldn't be a problem.

Gee, I don't know why I clicked Answer on this, I never had Earthlink, but it has been my experience with AOL and others that they argue, ignore, continue billing, and generally make it very difficult and unpleasant. I hope that isn't the case for you with Earthlink.

When I cancelled mine a few years ago they asked me to reconsider. I said only if I can get better service with cheaper price. Whatever you answer is that'll be my answer. So my account was cancelled. I should have kept my e-mail though just in case someone tried to contact me with the old one.
