Many people in small town settings seem to be hypocrites just because they have not examined their beliefs. They simply go along with mob rule. They are unwilling to think for themselves if that involves the ridicule of their neighbors.

One could never refer to Atticus Finch as a hypocrite, as he is the very opposite; Atticus lives by the morals that he teaches his children to the extent that he is willing to risk physical injury to defend Tom Robinson.
