Contrary to what some one commented, Purina produces high quality animal foods. They also have spent years researching animals so they could make their foods more digestible.

Both Pro Plan and Purina ONE are made by Purina. Each one has a special weight reducing formula available. Some one suggested Beneful, that too is a Purina brand and is also good and has a weight formula.

Purina makes animal foods that are digestible and are nutritious. Any of their weight reduction products will do fine. None are really better than any of the others.

They're both relatively mediocre dog foods. A high quality food like Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Innova Evo, or Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul is a much better bet for losing weight, as they contain more protein and less carbs (like the corn filled junk that Purina produces)

Although they cost more, the best dog foods are ones that contain only natural ingredients, and those ingredients should be listed first on the ingredients list. I buy Nature's Choice, and the first couple ingredients are rice and lamb. Vets will steer you away from dog foods with corn in them. The natural ingredients will help keep your dog healthy and keep the coat smooth and shiny as well as keeping the skin healthy.

The best way to slim down your dog is -- you guessed it -- a little more regular exercise, appropriate for his or her weight, and less table scraps!!

We used to put a little meat (lunch meat, pepperoni, steak pieces) in with our dachshund's breakfast and dinner, but now I just put a few pieces of cereal in his bowl with his food and that works well, in addition to the better food. We used to use Purina One until the vet told us he needed to slim down a little bit.

One last thing -- if you change your dog's food type, change it over gradually by mixing in a greater amount of the new stuff each day. Their digestive systems don't always handle the change well!

Good luck!

They are both good. Science diet and Eukanuba also have really good weith loss dog foods so ask your vet what is best for your dog. The further you get away from Ol' Roy and Walmart brand dog foods the healthier they ar for your dog. The better quality foods are more expensive but that is becuase they are BETTER for your dog. Just changing your dogs food helps. I use to feed my dogs Kibble n Bits and they ate a ton and were Fat. I switched them to Purina One (the regular food not the weight formula) and now they eat less and weigh less because the food is higher quality and better for them. I cant afford Science diet and Eukanuba, so Purina One is what I feed. It and Proplan are the best that arent sold at the vet.

Neither!

Vets are not the best to ask about nutrition either. My vet gave me a bag of Science Diet with my puppy pack and the #1 ingredient is corn! Luckily I know better than to feed my dogs that crap.

Overall, natural is the best for dogs. You want a food that has meat as the #1 ingredient and there are plenty out there. You just won't be able to get them in a grocery store.

I feed Wysong and alternate with raw meat, veggies, eggs & oils.

neither - both of those foods are like feeding McDonalds, all the time. That's no way to lose weight!
Here's some info about dog foods:

I reduce the amount of food my dogs get in their bowls a lot when they get a lot of treats. Sometimes I hand feed them - this slows them down and I get training done in the process. If your dog's a gulper, consider getting him interactive food toys that he has to work at to get the food out.
