If you live near a body of water - you may incur water damage! WFT people. Live below sea level and your gonna get flooded. Live on the edge of cliff and you'll "slide" on down. Living in Paradise has it's draw backs. Having a great view has it's draw backs. It's all about choices and trade-offs of the life YOU chose. NOT THE GOVERNMENT!
are you sure the details weren't supposed to be wah wah wah wah wah wah wah??

I love the way the liberal mind thinks that everyone else is to blame for failures. The Governor of the state failed to submit the proper documentation for days after being told what had to be done. There were idle undamaged school buses that the state could have used to help get people moved to safe locations. There was plenty of warning given to get out but people figured they knew more than the national weather service about the dangers of Katrina. Some of our government offices that are supposed to handle these things did not work very well but that is to be expected since this type of thing on that large of a scale doesn't happen much. There are similar problems in Ca. (major disasters waiting to happen) but the government is slow to act and it doesn't matter if its the reps or the Dem's.

I don't remember anyone asking if he did a good job after World Trade center oh I forgot! we had a competent republican mayor in NY or about Mississippi after the hurricane oh I forgot! they had a competent republican governor there. The truth of the matter is that whenever you place democrats in charge, the major and governor of Louisiana you are inevitably going to get a mess like this and a passing of the buck to the president. I find it incredulous the amount of blame this president get for everything that happens it defies logic. I don,t remember during the Clinton administration anyone blaming him for the hundreds of death during a heat wave in Chicago or the death of all those women and children at Waco.

Wow, you realy reached back for that one. No one did a good job with Katrina. Not the city. Not the state. Not the Federal government. It important to remember that evacuation plans and emergancy plans are the promary responsabilit of the state and local government. The federal government is secondary.

Why don't you hold Nagin and Blanco in the same contempt you do Bush?
Bush wasn't the one who let all those school buses sit under water. Nagin should have had those buses removing the sick and elderly. Bush tried to send help sooner, but Blanco refused it.
Is Bush to blame for the fact that you're a moron, too?

It was a mess of huge proportions. His actions before were C- grade at best-- he was on vacation.
His actions after the disaster were D- at best. In fact, he was still on vacation even after the storm. And, its a joke that he and his people say they didn't know how bad it was when the nation could see for themselves on national television-- multiple channels even.
On top of that, we're more than a year post-Katrina and its still a mess. Tons of companies also made lots of money (the trailer company, KBR, etc.) while those most in need-- the residents, voters, constituents -- are still screwed.
Many people, even in their responses here are blaming the residents. Sure, many should have left and didn't. But a great many COULD NOT leave as they didn't have the means to do so. Plus, many were told to assemble in places like the superdome and the convention center.
Katrina was a massive failure of leadership from local level all the way up to the president. Nobody is innocent in the failure of leadership.

The second Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Bush should have pulled out of the war, and focused his time and energy on helping our own country for a change.

One of the worst things Bush did (after the Iraq occupation) was the way he reorganized the Federal government. He cut budgets and contracted out so many jobs that agencies like FEMA, which were set up to help in large scale multi-state emergencies, were unable to do their job.

I agree with Dan and the others. He told them to get out, and they didn't. I am from Louisiana, but in the central area, so I wasn't hurt by the storm. I have had to evacuate before, and I did, because they suggested it. They didn't wanna evacuate, so they should have had to figure out a way out by themselves, if you ask me. FEMA still paying for their lives is not fair, when I get up every morning and come to work. I was inconvenienced during hurricanes, but FEMA never showed up with finances for me.
