1. Make sure you have all of the device drivers for the computer before doing formating and re-installing

2. You may need to go into the computer's system BIOS to configure the computer to start from your CD-ROM drive. Typically a mesage is displayed when you first turn the computer on. Somthing similar to "Press F1 or Del to enter setup"

3. If you have all of your software drivers than proceed a follows:

3a. Place your copy of a full version of Windows XP in the CD-ROM drive and turn the computer on. You should see a message "Press Any Key to Boot from CD"

3b. Go through the screens until you come to the list of Partitions.

3c. Select the Partition that you wish to install and click next.

3d. You will be prompted to either Format the partition using FAT32 or NTFS or to leave the current filesystem alone

3e. select Format using either FAT32 ot NTFS

3f. From there Windows XP should copy files over needed for the setup process

3g. The computer will restart and again prompt you to "Press Any Key....." don't. At this stage the computer must start off of the hard disk to continue setup.

3h. After this piece just follow the screens and provide your information

3i. After Windows XP is completely installed you may have to install additional software drivers which I hope you have and have backed up.

Put XP disk in the cd rom and reboot your computer.
It should boot from a disk, and start the install which will give you an option to reformat the drive completely.
