Network neighborhood
Network connections
Click on your network card
Go into the properties
Find the listing for TCP/IP
Select and remove it
Reboot the computer
Go back to the same place
Readd TCP/IP

If you are not getting to sites by name, only by number, then you are missing the setting for the DNS server. If you have a router, go under your TCP/IP setting and add the address of your router as the address for the DNS server. If you do not have a router, contact your ISP and get the address of their DNS server and try entering that in the TCP/IP properties for DNS server. That should resolve the issue.

What dewcoons said is exactly what I would do. I am surprised that the ISP didn't walk you through this process. Comcast constantly tries to ping your computer through the cable network to make sure everything is working. If your TCP/IP service is not working they help you setup that option.
