Emo is a marketing term to split the soft goth rock from the heavy goth rock.
The Cure-light goth
Marilyn Manson-heavy goth
Emo or goth these bands (in particullar The Cure) tend to write songs that are deeply emotional in both lyrics and sound. Whereas most pop songs are usually happy or talk about sad feelings Emo bands go over the top lyrically.
The most emotional cd i've ever heard in all my years of being a professional DJ would have to be without a doubt Disintegration by The Cure part of a trilogy of deeply emotional albums which include Pornography and Bloodflowers.
Run by a lyrics site and check out the lyrics by some of these artists compared with other styles of music and the intensity of the compositions and it'll be obvious.
Regardless of the genre people adapt the mannerisms and styles of things they identify with most and eventually will create their own identity. Life is a larceny. We take the things we admire most about others and make them our own.

You can never say exactly why, 'cause each one of them have different reasons, for sure, not only becuz they believe they're very emotional..there are some that one to be someone that their not..or they havent found themselves
or also perhaps becuz they think its 'cool'
However, there are some that are deeply into this...and feel that being within this community may help them feel safe and wanted..

What used to be called Post Modern in my younger days has become Emo, and with that silly children like to play dress up, just as they do with Goth and we did with headbanger hair metal. It's a phase, just a silly phase, about identity and society.

Its no different than people who like hip hop or pop, they have a certain way of dressing.I personally don't see a huge difference between emo and goth.

because they ARE emotional... so i hate the stereotype, but here it is. they take the littlest thing and make it out to be the end of the world. an emo steps in dog crap and thinks his life is over.
