I am writing an autobio. for school and my opening line is a lyric from a song. DO I need to cite any info as to song title, artist or year song was released, and if I do, where do I put this information? Oh yeah, I am using MLA format for this paper. Please help if you can!!!!!!

Yes...Just put the name of the songwriter below the lyrics..just like you would the author of a poem...If your paper requires a citation page....songs usually have authors, publishers, and copyright all not necesarily owned by the same person...this information can usually be found on the CD insert or on the back of the CD jewel case. For citation format details check any Citation reference manual for contemporary grammar.

Good question, can't hink of anything off hand but will get back to you after some thought and a cup of tea. What a mean assignment to limit it to song lyrics. Someone will come up with a good song lyric web site for you to trawl through. In fact, one day when I was in a foul mood I put the word **** in google and the first hit was song lyrics site.

Cite, cite, cite. It's always better to give credit to the original author or artist than be accused of plagiarism.

yet you can put a foot note at the bottom of the page or at the end of the paper, info to include who wrote, date, and or published by, some songs are writen by other people other than the singer.
