When you scan into any Word Processing document you need to use an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software in order for you to be able to type and change the document. If you don't use OCR then you are just scanning an image into a word processor and it will treat it as a picture. There should have been some software that came with your scanner otherwise you might try to google for some free software. Hope this helps...

When you simply scan a document, you can't edit it as text because it is transferred to your computer as an image. The computer doesn't know there's text there or how to understand the letters on the image.

If you want to scan a document as text, you need an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program. An OCR program can recognize the characters on the document you scan and save it as text you can later edit (as text).

Using the program might need a little patience and you can use the help on the menu or on the website, depends on the program you use.

I should also add, that those programs can only understand documents that were originally typed in common fonts (such as Arial, Times New Roman, etc.) and you should go through the results because these programs are prone to mistakes (such as confusing a period with a comma, a colon with a semi-colon or the letters "i" and "j").

Here are a few OCR programs you can download:

ditto to what country said, OCR software is needed to be able to edit the existing text. if you just want to omit and retype parts i also use CS2, but you can't edit the original text.
