Hi there! My first baby is due on December 19th and I still haven't even lost my mucus plug! The baby is also pretty high still..I'm so worried that I'll have to be induced. Is it normal to be nearly due and still not lose it? can anyone tell me when they lost their mucus plug, and how long it took after losing it before they went into labour? All replies appreciated..thanks..xx

"Some women will lose their mucous plug or part of their mucous plug weeks before they go into labor. Losing your mucous plug does not always mean labor will begin shortly. Keep in mind that even if a woman has begun to dilate, it may be weeks before she actually goes into labor. However, if you notice blood tinged mucous before your thirty-sixth week of pregnancy, notify your doctor right away. As your body prepares for labor your cervix will begin to dilate and thin. As your cervix opens up, your mucous plug may fall out. Losing your mucous plug is a good sign that labor is on its way. Though, it could be days or even weeks after you lose your mucous plug before labor actually starts. Many women do not lose their mucous plug at one time; instead, they lose it more gradually. They may notice an increase in vaginal secretions weeks before they go into labor. " So it could mean, NOW and it could mean you're going to be waiting a while. Each mother will tell you their own personal experiences, but no idea if they//'ll apply to you. Like a lot of things in life, you'll have to wait and find out. Read the attached source--it will let you know when you HAVE to go to the doctor, cannot wait another minute, head for the hospital, when you need to call your doctor, no it can't wait a day, page the poor person, and when you can wait until you see your doctor again. Which is what you really need to know.

Well, with my first child.. I didn't loose it until I was in Labor. My second child. I lost my plug on Haloween, he was born November 16th, but was induced. My third child, I lost my plug 2 weeks before I was due, but she was also induced. Losing the plug doesn't have anything to do with actually going into labor. Some may loose it after labor has started, some may loose it weeks before. Don't worry about it. It will come out when it's ready.. If you are really worried about it, the doctor can loosen it up for you, and it will come out sooner.

To tell you the truth I don't remember losing my plug at all even to this day. I remember my water breaking several times tho, and going in and out of the hospital over the course of a week. Every pregnancy is different keep that i mind. Throughout my whole pregnancy I was told 'your water never breaks with the first baby' Funny what people claim mine broke 3 times! So don't worry if you don't lose your plug or do lose your plug, the contractions are strong enough to know that your in labour trust me you'll know! Good luck and be patient.

My first, was a premie due to PROM..my water just broke with no contractions, etc...so I lost my plug during labor. My second, I also lost my plug DURING labor. My third, I started losing some the night before I had him. My experiences have obviously been very variable. LOL

I didnt lose mine untill i was in active labor. Its diffrent for each person. My water never broke, the dr broke it when i was a 5. And my daughter was still high when i was a 10. I had to push her down. (2 hours of pushing total, ugh.lolol) Just try to relax. I didnt want to be induced either. I was in active labor with strong contractions (was glad i wasnt getting induced), but still got hooked up to a pit drip in the end cause i wasnt dialating. All went well, and im glad the dr. didnt let me lay there for 2 days in active labor. lolololol Just try to relax and start walking, and having sex if dr. says these things are fine for you to do to help bring on labor.

Never saw my mucus plug, either time, don't worry so much, both my kids were were a week or more late, and my doctor told me she never heard of a baby not being born, they all come eventually. Relax, it will all work out fine.

Some women don't even notice when they lose it...some don't lose it until they're in labor.
Don't worry that you haven't seen it yet...I never did and my baby was born 1 day after his due date.
