Assuming integer division, the answer is one less than the divisor. In other words, 4 in your case.

If it went higher (to 5) then it would divide evenly and you would get a remainder of 0...

When you have a divisor of 5, the possible remainders are {0, 1, 2, 3, 4}. The largest remainder possible is 4.

It would approximate the divisor. Eg. 4.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 but never equal 5. Therefore the possibilities are unlimited less than 5.

first you know what is reminder

when we divide a number by a number then the number left or remain is called reminder.

so if we r dividing by 5 means reminder will be 1,2,3,4
so largest reminder will be simple 4 and lowest reminder will be 1

It is 4, since every whole number is of one of these forms:
5t
5t + 1
5t + 2
5t + 3
or
5t + 4.
