I often wonder if I am giving my baby enough vitamins in his meals. Last week I saw in the chemist vitamin drops designed for babies, and I just wondered if anybody here would recommend them. I give him a lot of fruit and veg, but I only eat chicken so that's all I give him meat wise. He is nearly 10 months old now.

My son has formula milk, but this is not by choice. I tried to breast feed for almost three weeks, but I did not produce enough milk and he lost too much weight. I expressed for another couple of weeks but I dried up too quidkly to be able to continue this for long.

Your a very good mother to be worrying. I think that the path your on currently will be fine. To much vitamins can poison a child. As long as your child is getting a balanced diet you should be fine. But when in doubt talk to the pros. Call the doctors office and see what they say.

It's just another marketing gimmick aimed at mothers. If you baby is drinking loads of breastmilk still (or breastmilk substitute) and eating fruit and veg, then there's no need for any food supplements.
Oh just to add that breastfed babies do NOT need vitamin D drops if the mother is eating a good diet herself. This is another myth put about by the formula industry to undermine breastfeeding.

If your little one is eating fuit and veg, he will be fine! Chicken is a good source of low fat protein, and as soon as you start giving him cheese, and yogurts his diet is well balanced. Remember added vitimins are in his formula. Don't get caught into the added supplements story! You can actually do more harm than good! Your diet plan is excellent. Remember there are loads of people out there who just feed the kids, beans and nuggets .. no fresh produce at all. These supplements are directed at them!!

I think its quite dangerous to give babies vitamins since their organs are still developing i would rather opt for fresh fruit and vegetables and fish which will provide the same ammount and even better in regards to vitamins at no risk to your childs health.
there are too many companies out there trying to promote their products and if you really want to try them find out as much information as you can about the company and their products.

I'm sure he is perfectly fine. chicken is a good meat for him and baby foods (if you are still giving them to him) are packed with extra vitamins. Before you give something like that to your baby, ALWAYS consult your Dr. first. Sometimes if they get too many vitamins it can do more damage then good.

I asked my pediatrician about vitamins for my son. She said you shouldn't have to give them vitamins. She stressed whole milk (after the age of 1) and fruits and veggies with meals. I wouldn't suggess supplementing.

I used to mix some vitamins in my babies formula. The doctor said it wouldn't hurt them, and now they take childrens chewable vitamins without any problems. I cannot remember the name of the vitamins though, sorry! Good Luck and God Bless!

I think that the best thing to do would be to discuss this with your family Doctor or Public Health Nurse. I know that breastfed babies are supposed to have Vitamin D drops.

I think that you need to ask your health visitor or doctor about this- that would be the best place to get advice like this.
