You are legally an adult at 18.
But geez. Don't go living with your boyfriend!
You really don't wanna mess with your parents. They have a lot more power than you think they do. Just be on their GOOD SIDE. Make the world a happier place.

According to the laws of the 50 US states, you are not an adult able to live on your own until you are 18. In most states if you are arrested at age 17 and your parents will not accept you back home, you can be either sent to a foster home or juvenile detention until you are 18, or the court can try you as an adult if the crime is serious enough and you can get an adult sentence such as the death penalty. Are you still in a hurry to be an adult now??

17 is still considered as a minor. If you run away or leave with your 'boyfriend', the police can still tell you to go home or even detain you and ask your parents to get you.
If you were smart; don't run away with a so-called boyfriend. Smart people don't do that. Instead discuss this situation with your parents. If that is too difficult, talk to another adult-perhaps an aunt or uncle.
Remember; running away can only cause more trouble. What ahappens if the 'boyfriend' gets you pregnant and then decides to leave? Where will taht leave you?

You need to be 18 years out before you are considered an adult...when you are a 17 year old the police will view you as another one of those damn teens who are up to no good...

In Georgia, an adult is reponsible for you until your 18, but you can leave at 17. The odd thing is is that they are required to take care of you until your 18, so they can't just throw you out. Be easy on your mom and dad, they're only looking out for you.

All I can tell you is that while age 18 is considered to be an adult, in NY age 17 is the age for legal sexual consent.

Well, yes you are an adult at 17....and you can legally move out. You question worries me though. I see nothing wrong with moving out at 17....I did it and don't regret it. But if you cut ties with your mom and dad and leave on bad terms, I think you will be hurting yourself. I moved out at 17, but my parents have always been my safety net. When I couldn't afford groceries, I could eat at their house. When I needed a co-sign on a car or appt. my parents were willing to help. Try to work with your parents. IF they don't want you to live with your boyfriend (and although you may not see it...it IS a bad idea), compromise and tell them you want to move out but you will get a female roommate. They may not love the idea...but they will have to respect your maturity. Good luck!

I believe that they can because with emancipation laws you are not considered legal until your parents pettition a doccument you can recieve from a courthouse. You must have this doccument filled out then you legally have to have a police officer hand deliver it to your parents. If they dont pettition within a certain amount of days you are considered legal. If they do then you can fight them in court. But believe me I know from personal experience unless your absolutaly sure you can handle this responsibility just wait the year.
