Three major themes run through To Kill a Mockingbird: education, bravery, and prejudice.

The title gives a very good indication of the major theme in the novel. It's a sin to kill a mockingbird, because they do nothing but create enjoyable music, but nevertheless some people will kill them. Thus the novel explores the coexistence of good in evil in daily life, and in the individual.

The source I listed below has some very good, concise information about several themes in the novel.

Life is not fair.

Some people try to be fair, some don't. In the end, it really doesn't matter. Also, growing up is hard.
