i've posted a few times in the last couple of days about whether i'm pregnant or not.
i started my period, though, 2 days late, which is not common for me. so... obviously i'm either one who gets her period while she's pregnant or i am, as i assume, not pregnant.
i DID have a lot of strange pregnancy symptoms, though, and i FELT pregnant, i just thought "i'm pregnant i know it" and then about 4 days ago the symptoms sort of faded away and i felt NOT pregnant... i don't know if it's even possible to know by just feeling like you are. but at any rate, what are the chances that i could have been pregnant and this was just a very early miscarriage? and if it IS a miscarriage is there any sort of "cleaning out" i need to have done? i'm assuming no, since the fetus isn't even very developed at what would be this stage.
i'm just curious, i guess, i'm trying not to think too much about it so i don't get sad, i just want to know

➔ Pregnancy
It's possible that you did have a "chemical pregnancy," which is a very early miscarriage that occurs when an embryo fails to develop and you essentially get a later-than-usual period before a pregnancy could have been confirmed by ultrasound and after hcg was or would have been detected. There really is no way to know whether that's what happened -- even if you are virtually always "on time," there are plenty of things that could enlong a particular cycle and thus cause you to start to bleed later than expected. But what you say about the symptoms appearing and then disappearing.....that could just be a funky cycle vis a vis PMS/menstrual symptoms, but, you could have been pregnant. Personally, for me, there has virtually always been a qualitative difference in some of my symptoms when I'm actually pregnant. If you did experience a chemical pregnancy, at least know that you are a far cry from being alone; when the stats are adjusted to account for the probable/possible number of such early losses, they suggest that miscarriage may occur in as many as 70 percent of pregnancies. That doesn't make you any less sad -- believe me, I do understand -- but it should let you know that the loss does not mean that anything is wrong with you.
If this was a miscarriage, there is nothing you need to do for a "cleaning out." At such an early stage, the bleeding, when you shed your uterline lining where the embryo would have implanted, was all that was required. There's no concern about "retained products of conception" that you hear about with later miscarriages.
A lot of the time when loss is so early, other people just don't understand why you would be sad -- they don't recognize it as a loss, somehow. I understand not wanting to think about it, but if you DO want to think about it, and talk to people who've been there, there's lots of forums online, and I particularly recommend the forums at http://www.tcoyf.com -- it's full of women trying to conceive (I recognize you may not have been TTC) and many of them have had losses, early and late, and there's a lot of support, and information, to be found there. I found it invaluable (I've had several losses myself).
Hope that helps.
PS To address some of the other answers you got: you would not necessarily know if you were pregnant or miscarrying. Miscarriage are not necessarily painful -- even later ones, much less "chemical pregnancies." In fact, with such early losses (IF that's what you had) MOST women are never even aware that they're pregnant to begin with. Also, as far as a doctor being able to tell you if you were pregnant and had a loss: also not true with a chemical pregnancy. Unless there's still hcg in your system to be picked up by a test, there's not going to be anything to indicate to the doctor that conception ever occured, and development wouldn't have been sufficient to cause tell-tale changes in your uterus. Yes, you can take a test (and I would recommend taking a home one, just to see -- after all, some women do experience bleeding in pregnancy (and no, that's not a "period") -- but chances are, you will never know whether you got your period late without ever getting pregnant, or whether you were pregnant and had a chemical pregnancy.

You would be having an early miscarriage, even though from what I comprehend from the gynecologists i work with they have additionally mentioned that a extend in getting your interval additionally allows for your endometrial layer to construct up thicker than what would on the whole be there. There fore by the point you truly do get your interval this is why it tends to be a lot heavier. Our rule of thumb is that if you are soaking by way of a pad an hour or more that is a severe quandary and also you need to seek medical awareness. If the bleeding continues for more than 4 or 5 days i might call your surgeon and give an explanation for what's going on they usually could wish to see you. I actually still have not acquired AF although did a preg experiment the day before today and bought a BFN so i am simply waiting for the inevitable heavy period to come any day now. Just right good fortune and confidently you will not have got to go into the clinic.

Even though you may have been "on time" with your period before, being 2 days late is not unusual! I think you were probably just late because you wanted to be pregnant. Women can actually exhibit signs of pregnancy when they're not because they want that or they think they're pregnant.
Most women don't "know" they're pregnant as early as you would've been without a pregnancy test.
On the other hand, you could've had an early miscarriage, it's possible. If it's bothering you, see your Dr. Good luck.

I had a miscarraige 4 years ago. I was 3-5 weeks pregnant. I found out i was pregnant by a home pregnancy test when i was only 2 days late. A week later, i miscarried, but i knew for sure i was really pregnant, because i went to the Emergency room for spotting. It was my first pregnancy and i was scared when i seen some spotting. They did so much stuff to me while at the ER i miscarried within hours of leaving the hospital. I did not have any cleaning out, i wasnt sure if i was suppose to. It took me 4 years to get pregnant again. I'm not sure if its to late, but a blood test might still be able to pick up HCG from if you were pregnant. Good luck to you, but don't get too down, it could have just been a late period. Again good luck to you!

no i doubt it was a miscarriage. just seems to me that maybe your period was late because you were stressing over not getting it. you would know if you had a miscarriage because of the pain involved and the blood is differnet then when you have a period.

THE DOCTORS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IF YOU HAD A MISCARRAGE WHY DIDNT YOU TEST TO SEE IF YOU WERE PREGNANT WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE AND FELT, I WOULD GO TO THE DOCTOR ASAP AND EXPLAIN TO HIM WHAT HAPPEN CAUSE IF YOU DID HAVE A MISSCARRAGE YOU COULD GET AN INFECTION IF ITS NOT TAKEN CARE OF GOOD LUCK AND WHO KNOWS MAYBE YOU COULD STILL BE PREGNANT
