The most important thing about wanting to be a detective, or any form of law enforcement, is keeping your record clean. Make sure you do not commit any criminal or dishonest acts, limit or completely avoid marijuana, completely avoid anything "harder" than marijuana, and volunteer in your community. Other than that, courses in criminal justice, psychology, mathematics, and other analytical subjects could be helpful. Good luck.
