It's because in the past, there existed the "one-drop rule." This meant that any person who had even a single "drop" of black anscestry was considered black. It was to keep tabs on African Americans, to prevent them from having certain rights, etc. One founder of the NAACP, Walter White, was just 1/65 black! He had blonde hair.

It's the one-drop rule, like the person above said. There used to be legislation in fact that anyone who was 1/16th black couldn't own property (or something like that, been a while since I was in school).
This practice is entirely rooted in slavery and racism. An awful lot of mixed race blacks got their white genes from the plantation owners who took their liberties with slave women. They would want to keep the offspring as slaves, not have to make them heirs.

coz the black gene is far stronger than the white one,so the blackness will always prevail, and Barrack Obama is an African man,he even lived in Africa as a child,Halle Berry cannot be white, she´s too hot,as for Tiger Woods, definitely black,he´s real cute, couldnot possibly be anything else.

On one hand, they try to associate themselves with being black or being white when it is convienent. On the other hand, African-Americans as a whole consider them black when they feel like it. I personally do not consider people that are mixed either one race or another. I just call them mixed with whatever they are.

tiger woods is half asian, not half white. but this is still a legitimate question i guess. to be honest i don't know... maybe because there aren't enough black people in the media and they're trying to make it look like there's more by labeling people who are only half black as black. or maybe it's just cooler to be black than white. who knows.

there is no sub-culture of races for one thing...another MOST african americans are mixed. and thats stupid ive never known a black person that was half white to say "oh im white with a little bit of black in me" ...oh and another thing black genes are dominant over white so the person naturally look more black.

It probably has to more with the actual color of the skin than the heritage. I am not really sure, but that could be one reason.
I know people that are mixed white/asian, but are considered white and I know people who are white/latino, and they prefer to be considered latino.

I think its because there is no easy term to call people in between . we know whites are white and blacks are black, and middle are Asians (Tan skin Asians like India).. so if its not "white" and not "Indian" its "Black". I have one friend of mine who is mix between white and Japanese, she has blue eyes, but she is always "Japanese"

I agree with danika106. It goes back to history, if you have any dope of Black blood in you then you are Black. Also Black's will accept you no matter what you mix with, other races won't.
