I would doubt that its true. Most e-mails about those awards are scams. The companies collect thousands of emails from unsuspecting people like yourself and then try and sell other things to them instead. You will not get the award, though.
A good point to remember: Unless you wrote or entered a companies contest, the emails are scams.
Also remember that if something sounds like it's too good to be true, it probably is!
P.S. I've got a great bridge in Brooklyn that I can give you! (see what I mean? That's an old sccam about the Brookly Bridge! It's been bought and sold in stories so many times, that it's a joke!
