The show was in the 1970's. I wish I could find it in "tvland." It was a spin-off of a HUGELY popular show.....the star characters in both shows were best friends.

I think you mean Carlton the Doorman from Rhoda which was a spinoff from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Lorenzo Music did Carlton's voice and also was the voice for Garfield on the TV comics.

That was the voice on a show called 'Charlie's Angels' in the 1970's.
The voice was John Forsythe; his face was never seen in the series.
The 'Angels' were Farrah Fawcett, Jacelyn Smyth, and Kate Jackson.
It is still shown on syndicated networks and two movies were made!

I agree that the show you are looking for is "Rhoda", two female friends "Rhoda Morgenstern, and I cant remember the name of her friend in the show. that lived in a high-rise apt complex with a seemingly drunken doorman named Carlton. famous for his line over the intercom "Hello this is Carlton your Doorman"

It was the doorman from the t.v. show Rhoda. His name was Carlton. It was a spin-off from the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Now give me my award. LOL.
