This is hard to answer with out any info on what you're writing about but...... if it says essay, go with the 5 paragraph essay. try this format. I'm going to use a persuasive essay on why cats are better than dogs.
First write what ever comes to your mind about you topic on a piece of paper (brainstorming). even if you write "I hate this topic" 10 times before you think of something, eventually you'll think of something. So here is my brainstorming: smaller, soft, don't have to be walked, can fit in my lap & cleaner.
1. Thesis / introduction. Clearly say what your essay is about, and introduce your reader to your ideas.
2. Reasons: Pick one or two reasons and talk about them here. Don't pick your best reasons, like I might say I believe cats are better than dogs because they are softer and cleaner in the second paragraph.
3. Opposing arguments: here is where you write something that the other side might say, and then you prove them wrong. Like I might have in my third paragraph, "While some smaller breeds of dogs may be lap sized, those dogs are often yappy and nervous and not at all as snuggly as cats; take chiuawa for instance." Or something like that. Basically, just try and show that not only are you right, but the other side is wrong.
4. Best Reason: In the 4th paragraph you write the best reason you have for why you believe cats are better than dogs or whatever.
5. Conclusion: Wrap up everything you wrote so far in your essay. Don't repeat it word for word, say something like, "The smaller, cuddlier, and less messy cats are obviously better pets than the dog, even small yappy ones.
Good luck, hope this helped. 5 paragraphs are always the best way to go

It depends, of course, on your topic or the question you're require dto answer. The best way to start is with some brainstorming: Write down everything you can think of about the topic or possible answers to the question.
Evaluate those ideas, and see if you can see one (or perhaps all of those answers suggest something) that can be your "thesis statement," or the main idea of your essay.
Then work on organizing those other ideas into an order that makes sense, and that supports your thesis. In other words, start identifying ideas that explain or prove your thesis. These can be developed into full paragraphs.
Make sure you do your research as you go along, whether it's finding quotes from a text you're supposed to write about, or some other kind of evidence to back up your ideas. Integrate these carefully into your essay.
Add a snappy introduction, a memorable conclusion, and transitions between your paragraphs, and you're done.

When I was in high school, my speech teacher told us to:
Tell the audience what you are going to tell them (Subject of essay)
Tell them (explain your points to your subject)
Tell them what you told them (conclusion to your subject)
Example:
Subject:
Dogs need to be cared for by humans because they are too domesticated to live on their own.
Explanation of subject:
Many dogs are seen getting into trash cans for food in neighborhoods because they no longer have the hunting abilities they once had in the wild.
Conclusion:
As this report has shown, all breeds of dogs are dependent on humans for their care and well being. Not only do they need food and shelter, but regular checkups and immunizations as was noted in the Pet Care book by Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Joseph Silitz <>.
Be sure and give credit where you find information for your essay.
I don't know if I helped much or not, but I hope so.
