If you mean Elie Wiesel's memoir "Night," it's "theme" is simply to show the reactions of various people to the presence of the occupation of Eastern Europe by The Third Reich in an effort to explain the apparent passivity of those people. At least, that's how I feel.

Yes, I did read it, and it seems to spend the first half explaining the general lack of reaction, no?
