Nail biting is a nervous habit. When you feel the urge to bite your nails, try to pay attention to the situation at hand, then change the situation if you can. A good doctor rearly treats a symptom, he looks for the cause.
You have already taken the 1st step towards solving the problem, recognition. Step2 is asking for help.
Step 3, listen to what everyone has to say, and follow what best fits you.
You can try chewing gum.Every time you feel the urge to chew, stick gum in your mouth. Pick a flavor you like and only chew that brand. That's how I quit smoking.
Your favorite beverage threw a straw. Eat crunchy things, that will copy the crunchy sound of your nails.
If it's cold out, you can wear gloves.
It takes 21 days to make or break a habit.
If you want it bad enough, you can change anything. (except other people)

Put something really bad tasting on them, or get acrylic on them, it would be hard to bit them of then. Or get them done really pretty, polish, manicure. you wont want to mess them up then, especially if you paid good money to get them to look nice.Or when ever you chew nails think of all the germs and dirt under them that you are putting in your mouth. That would pretty much do it for me. Or when ever you bite your nails, imagine that you are chewing the nails on your toes. sounds gross, yes, but it might work.

Oh my gosh I have the same problem! I got this stuff from Sally's Beauty Supply, I dont remember what its called but you put it on your nails, let it dry and if you put your fingers in your mouth again or your nails it tastes like ear wax but worse. It actually works if you want it to. But remember this stuff tastes horrible. I cant find the link to where it is but it's called Orleys or something with an 'O'

chronic onychophagia or nail biting can be very difficult to stop, but you can. i bit my nails for 18 years, and then one day, i just stopped. they are beautiful now. a tip that i have for you is to get silk nails applied to your real ones, or acrylic, but silk are better. try a manicure place that does not use a dremel tool, but hand buffs and emery boards. when i used to have relapses, i would go and get silks applied, and for maybe a month or so i would keep it up. then i would go and get them professionally removed to keep the nail underneath in good shape. i would then get a manicure to buff out any imperfections.
yes, this can be costly, but it can be used for a temporary relief. after you get your acrylics or silks removed, i would suggest spending time with your nail every night, not only to help rebuild health cuticle and nails, but to continue breaking the habit of hand to mouth. soon, you your nails will become strong naturally and you won't need to have acrylics or silks applied unless you want to!
i'm really serious that this worked for me!!

Well, you could just try stopping. Fight the temptation. You could also do things that make sure you can't get to your nails. Like wearing gloves, or putting something on your nails that are ick. like chili powder or hot sauce.
good luck.

Scrape your nails on a bar of soap. It tastes terrible, and is cheap and effective.
