Why should we be nice to our enemies? They aren't nice to us. However, I don't think most Americans feel enmity towards anyone, really. We are strong and powerful, and weak nations are jealous of this, and call us enemies.

We are overly nice to our enemies. I do like it that way. It would look really bad if someone started giving us lip and we assassinated them right there on the spot. This might provoke a bad opinion of us. I believe we handle things smartly and fairly to a large degree. There is a due process that is hard to understand but seems to work. If things heated up between certain people I can see a more heated approach to them would be in order. I'm not mentioning any names (even though he lives in Iran and last name is Ahmadinejad). We should play nice and live in peace if humanly possible.

Let's go along with your hypothetical. Suppose the U.S. assassinated Suddam Hussein. Chances are that Iraq would be in no better shape than it is today; at the brink of civil war.
The public would learn that there was no cause to assassinate the Iraqi President as there were no weapons of mass distruction.
The president of the U.S. would be facing a charge of murder from the world court, which would seriously damage the reputation of the U.S. amongst it's democratic allies as well as undermine it's credibility in other democratic forums.
This way, even though the U.S. did all it could to kill Saddam, the only form of justice that the president will face will come from the electorate of the United States. Far less messy don't you think?

I most definitely think we should have one. Any one that is a threat to America physically or trying to bring this country down economically and is public about it like Hugo Chavez should be put out of their misery.

we shouldnt kill unless attacked or provoked...but at the same time..we should have an "america first" policy towards other countries and quit giving it away to those who would harm us...its pretty obvious by now that appeasment hasnt worked in the world...peace through power

The theory behind our public policy is that others wont try to assasinate our leaders if we leave theirs alone.
Also, it would be morally wrong to assasinate the leaders of other countries.
