In Spanish "Latino" is the person who speak a romance language (derived from Latin). The real "Latinos" are Italian, Romanian, French, Spanish and Portuguese people. When the french came to America, they wanted to take central and south America as their empire, and they called "Latin America", to separate it from the British colonies. They weren't successful, but the name was kept, because the most spoken languages in "Latin America" are Spanish and Portuguese, and the most of us have Spanish or Portuguese blood, in more or less degree, that is the reason.
"Angel De Sangre" you are wrong, if Mexico is "Hispanic", it's "Latino" too.
Sorry if my English is not so good, I'll try to learn more.
Good luck.

They call themselves latinos because there is more that just one nationality of hispanics. Roman did have their dealings with Mexico and yes latin is used in government ever since and before the declaration of independense was signed.

I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I'm assuming that it has something to do with the fact that they speak Spanish, which is a derivative of Latin. In fact, Italian, French, and a few other languages were spawned from Latin. They are known as the Romance languages.
If that is why Hispanics call themselves Latino, then wouldn't it be proper for the French and Italians to call themselves Latino as well?

Latin is the language that became spoken in Lazio, the area at the same time as the city of Rome became depending. Language like Castilian or Italian are direct evolutions from that unique Latin. Hispanoamérica is the team of spanish-speaking international places in the Americas Iberoamérica is the team of spanish and portuguese speaking international places in the Americas, provided that Spain and Portugal are from the Iberian Peninsula Latinoamérica promises the french-speaking international places to the previous team and its the most oftentimes used time period. because the time period LatinEurope (that could comprise Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and Romania) is easily out of date, the note Latino, that became once utilized in Europe for the persons from this international places, is now actually used for Latinamericans.

Because Latin America speaks latin-derived language. Latin America never made part of the Roman Empire, but Portugal and Spain did, and Latin America has lot to do with Portugal and Spain, culture, religion, language, and in some cases, race.

Latino and Hispanic are terms that actually refer to European populations. The names have been co opted by popular culture since the mid seventies to replace the word Mestizo which has fallen out of favor. Mestizo means 'mixed' and describes population groups with primarily indigenous Indian genes 'mixed' with some European genes, ie Central America and South American population groups.

The other reason I've heard is that when you say Hispanic, it alludes to the idea that you're descended from Spain. Latino is more general.
