Why do you come to this conclusion?

If I have seen the band/artist in concert, I put my ticket stub in the CD case, because I want something to remember the concert.

They are bulky however, and because I have transfered all of my CD's to my MP3 player, and I have a back up of the songs on my PC, I keep the CD cases in the closet. The CD's themselves are in a CD case. Some people are disposing of the hard plastic case and keeping the liner notes, which are easier to store.

I keep all my CD cases. You never know when you want to look at a date, who sang which song, the words to the songs, there is alot of good info on the cases.

Also being a music collector I have found that LP's are worth more now in the original sleeves. Someday Cd's maybe the same way.

I wouldn't throw them out if i were you. You never know down the road when or if the Cd's will be worth more in the case.

Also like LP sleeves often there is some very interesting original art work in the cases.

I have gotten rid of all the cases for my cd's and have never regretted it. I keep all the cds in one of those cases that zip. The largest one I have holds 250 cds. Once a year I go through and alphabetize them. This way saves so much space, you'll love it.

I think that people who get rid of them are foolish. Your computer might crash or your MP3 player could get broken, stolen, stepped on, etc and then you would be out of luck. It is always good to keep hardcopies of everything. There is no CD portfolio/collection thing in the world that will protect your CD's as well as the box it came with. Just like old LP's, if you slide them in and out of the little pockets enough times, it is going to damage the music eventually. People forego taking care of their music for convenience, which just goes to show how "throw-away" things have become... so sad. Putting your CD's in one of those pocket things that hold them on your car visor is one of the worst things you can do to them! Anyone who doesn't realize this just hasn't had their CD's in the car long enough for the sun to ruin them. Keep your boxes with your CD's in them, store them in a cool, dry, not dusty place if they are in the way.

I like to keep my CDs in their original condition. I might want to sell them sometime, and it would be better to have them in their original case.
If you don't plan on ever selling them or you don't have enough room to store all of those CDs, then I would say store the cases someplace else.

Now that I have a ipod and psp I have no use for my cd's so I cut them up and made a collage with them, framed it and put it on my wall. people compliment me on it all the time, they think I bought the picture that way, and it freed up the space I used to use on them !! Hope that helps.
