jewellery making? there are loads of ways of doing this. using precious metal clay, ceramics, fimo, wire wrapping, beads etc and if you end up good at it, you could make money from it too!

Contact the USO, or the Red Cross, or the Salvation Army,
The hobby I am suggesting is Volunteering, it is rewarding and a worthy thing to do.

I like knitting and crochet. You can keep your hands busy and it's not noisy or really expensive to start. I like to knit while I watch tv with my husband at night. I've also noticed I don't have problems with repetitive motion injuries in my wrists anymore, It's a good exercise for your hands.

try knitting, if you enjoy it you can join a local knitting group in your area. It'd be a great way to meet new people. Start off easy like a scarf and then work your way up to more advanced projects. You can go to these sites for free patterns....

if you're artistic and don't mind getting your hands dirty, maybe you could try sculpting and ceramics...you can get a pottery wheel at most toy stores for like $50 and I really enjoy it. it's also very stress relieving too!
