My husband didn't get the timing belt changed on our 2004 Hyundua when recommended. Now our warranty is invalid. Now the engine is shot and needs replacing. Does any one know about how much this might cost us with labor?

Since it is a 2004 take the beast to an independant shop, They like me have sources and can find a same or lower mileage engine. for cheap.
I just replace a Honda Accord engine that came out of a 2005 and I put it into a 2004 the motor cost 450.00 and the install 550.00 You should look at 1100. for the motor new from a dealer. I just called Hyundai and the parts guy said the cheapest crate they have in stock is 950.00

The head and valve train may not be the only parts damaged, depending on the makeup of the pistons and valves. You're looking at about 4,000$ in repairs if done at a dealership. Get quotes from independant mechanics. Should've replaced the timing belt, there's a reason it's recommended, and you've now found out why. 60,000 miles isn't outlandish on a 2004, I've put 30,000 miles on my car since January 1st of this year.

Your car is between 2 and 3 years old, how many miles?

Depending on what engine you have Hyundai says between 60,000 to as high as 105,000 miles is the recommended mileage. That would be a lot of miles for a 2004.

I would investigate this further and if you have any doubts about the dealership and the warranty, you should speak to a Hyundai rep.

First off I don't think that you have to replace the whole motor. If the timeing belt broke the worst you should have to do is to replace the head and valve train, that is if the motor didn't have a great deal of miles on it. If you have to replace the head it shouldn't cost you more than 4 to 8 hundred dollars. Good luck.
