They're supposed to start directly over the inner tip of your eyelid, the arch should peak in a direct line between your nostril and the outer edge of your iris (hold up a pencil) and the brow should taper to a point in line with your nostril and the outer tip of your eyelid (again, hold up a pencil.)
Brush your brows up, & pluck only those that grow below the main line.
Brush your brows down and pluck ONLY those OBVIOUSLY above the line.
Over-long hairs? They can be cut, but I'd recommend you go have it done.
Unruly hairs: hairgel. (seriously)
Don't bleach or color yourself. Use a slightly lighter pencil to fill in sparse places. you're good to go!

Simple- imagine a line (or use a pencil) going from the outside corner of the base of your nose, touching the inside corner of your eye, hitting your brow. This is where the eybrow should begin. pluck (or wax) anything that might be causing a unibrow. Then imagine another line (or use a pencil) going from the same corner of the base of your nose, touching the OUTSIDE corner of your eye, all the way to your brow. This is where the eybrow should end. Pluck anything outside this. A slight arch looks good on anyone. Few people can pull off a very high arch, otherwise people just look as though they are in a constant state of surprise. Where the arch should be is found also with the imaginary line or pencil. Starting once again from the base of your nose, past the outer edge of your pupil, to the brow. This is where the peak of the (slight) arch should be. Now pluck or wax what needs to be plucked or waxed ONLY to shape that arch. Unless your eyebrows are EXTREMELY thick, they don't need to be plucked thinner. A thick brow is in style, and if you pluck them too thin now, they may not grow in and you'll end up like a lot of those old ladies you see that have to draw them in with pencils.
They make eyebrow stencils, but I've never tried them. I would imagine they don't work quite as well as the technique I mentioned above, as it is tailored to your very face while the stencils are generic.

Look closely at the shape. Your brow should begin at your tear duct, peak at the outer edge of your iris and end at the outer corner of your eye. Many women make the mistake of taking off too much at the outer corners. This slants the brows upward and makes the person look perpetually angry. Hold a pencil in line with the outer side of your iris and note where the peak of your arch naturally occurs. From the arch to the outer corner of the eye, your brow should fall in a straight or slightly curved line, depending on the look you're trying to achieve. Hold the tweezers at a 45 degree angle and pluck the stray hairs below the brow line. Pull in the direction of the hair growth, or you may end up breaking the hair mid-shaft. Follow your natural brow shape, not the trends. It's very difficult to let your brows grow back into their natural shape after you've plucked them to death trying to achieve a particular look.

For me going NATURAL is the way to go.. But that doesn't mean having MANBROWS ok? First don't go too thin. Just tweeze the hairs that are out of place and keep your brows in a unified state (yes, unified meaning anyone that falls out of your guide gets tweezed) and never over-tweeze!!!

I think the best way is to go with your natural shape and pluck only the stray hairs. If you want to shape them, see a pro!

How about you shave them off completely, then draw them on. Or pluck them so much that they look like thin lines above your eyes. Because aliens are hot and guys love that.

It depends on your face. You don't want them to be too thick or too thin, though. They should always be well groomed and plucked. No stray brows. And definitely no unibrow!!
