Miss is used when you are not married... usually a young woman will use it, 25 and under. Ms. is used when you do not want people to know if you are married or not.

Traditionally, Miss is used to refer to an unmarried woman. Ms. is a term that sprouted up during the feminist revolution, and is intended to be a female form of address that makes no reference to her marital status. In other words, to address her without placing importance on whether or not there's a man in her life. A lot of people have come to use Ms. for older unmarried women, or just to be safe.

Miss indicates that you are unmarried. Ms. works for a married or unmarried woman.

I prefer Ms. because I don't see why my marital status should have anything to do with anything!

Miss means a woman/girl who has never been married.

Ms can mean te same thing or she is a divorcee or a widow or a married woman.

I prefer Mrs for my title. I think you know that one.

I have a friend who is also married, but insists on Ms. She loves to keep people guessing. ; )

Miss is for single women who have never been married. Ms. can be applied to any woman, single, married, or divorced. Many divorced women started to use it in the 70's, but it can be applied to any woman.
