i went to watch 'the prestige' yesterday and thought the film to have a different kind of storyline but extremely longwinded. i guessed the twist in the plot from when we saw the other cat and the tonne of hats in the field behind the big house. but what i didnt understand was what the hell happened at the end from when danton goes to visit borden in jail and borden's twin shoots barton, what the hell was barton's friend (micheal caine) walking away from the building to allow borden to kill danton? and what the hell was the significance of having all of his body doubles in water? it must have obviously had something to do with his wife dying. and furthermore, in the beginning of the film, when borden ties the knot around the womens wrists, she watches him tye it wrong, so why doesnt she sat anything?
it was too bloody long, preditable, diificult and i would rather chop off my two fingers then to have to watch it again.

You obviously missed a great deal of the detail in that movie. Perhaps you are not a native english speaker? In any case, you might want to stick to the animated movies. Happy Feet was really good, and probably more in line your intellectual capabilities.

I have to agree with what the others have said..... I loved this film - was definately one of the best films out in 2006. In fact I went to see it twice - and actually the second time round - you can answer a lot of questions you have - and listen to subtleties that the actors say (1 liners) that give you a clue that Borden is a twin

OK - you can guess 1/2 of the plot with "The Great Danton" duplicating himself - but you would never suspect that "Borden" has a twin...great twist!!!!

The book is totally different from the film - well worth the read if you didn't like the film - or understand it

/em cracks his fingers.

1) when borden ties the knot around the womens wrists, she watches him tye it wrong, so why doesnt she sat anything?

Because Julia wants to try out the knot that way as well as Borden. She tells you that in the scene before she dies when Borden mentions it. The reason why Borden never know what knot was tied was becuase he honestly didn't know. His brother was in the act that night and not him.

2) what the hell was the significance of having all of his body doubles in water?

He needed to get rid of the duplicates of himself. There was probably some greater significants of the drowning like his wife did, but you might have to read the book to understand that exactly. The reason there are blind stage hands working is so they won't help the clones and they won't know what it going on.

3) what the hell was barton's friend (micheal caine) walking away from the building to allow borden to kill danton?

First, He was in disguise so it wasn't like it would be easy to tell at a glace. Second Cutter thinks Borden is still in jail and about to be executed. Why would he think he would be standing next to him.

4) but what i didnt understand was what the hell happened at the end from when danton goes to visit borden in jail and borden's twin shoots barton

The entire movie is about revenge and the magican's trying to stick it to each other. At the end Borden's brother is in jail so he goes to kill the man that put his brother there in the first place.
The story is kinda confusing until you realize that you are seeing a lot of the story as a flashback of a flashback since the entire movie you are following Borden reading Angier's journal as he reads Borden's journal.

Just as a point of information the twin that lives is the actual father of the child, Jess.

p.s. by the way ... it was really fun telling people the plot of this movie with Wolverine, Batman, and Alfred in the place of the actual character names.

Well,your movie taste sucked.
The Prestige was a great movie.
And if u said it was predictable, why did u say it's difficult too?It should be easy considering its so "predictable"

Michael Caine walked away because he was mad and upset that Danton was becoming self-obsessed about beating Borden.
And ur second question showed that u dont have the intelligence needed to watch this movie.Obviously he had to drown his double or people will start wondering when he saw all his clones. Its the easiest way to make sure his double would die, thus he chose drowning in the water.not because of the wife or anything.
And Danton's wife didnt stop Borden from doing a different knot because she was being overly confident with her ability to release herself from the knot.
And yes, please chop off your fingers.

well i think your wrong i thought it was a cracking film that you do have to watch to understand it.
danton goes to visit bourdon because he wants to know how he does his version of the transported man, but he has to go in diguise as he is ment to be dead. the reason michael caine walks away is because he is dissappointed with danton as he used to him to set bourdon up for dantons murder. the body doubles in the water, think about it.....cant have 100 dantons walking around now can you, people would then know how the trick is done. so he has to kill them each time a new one is created. the reason that bourdon and danton hate each other is because of the knot tieing thing. the reason she doesnt complain is because they discuss it and she thinks she can get out of it. michael caine the guy who comes up with the tricks says the knot aint right for it (even though it is easier to untie) cause it swells when wet and becomes tricky to untie. hence the reason why she drowned

dont want to sound rude mate but try watching it next time

well the answers on here pretty much sum up the plot of the movie. however i usually figure out a movie before it is over and in this case it was well written and more difficult then most. the clues are easier to see when it is over.

There were lots of bodies in the water because he had to do lots of performances until the other magician came to the performance.....each time they did it he had to kill himself by drowning...

This was the best film of 2006...although I agree that the twist was obvious once you saw the cats

Wow, I haven't seen this movie yet, but I've been wanting to for some time. Still do, despite all the spoilers.
