They are so cute. Its a big game to them and I know you love playing it with them. My little rat used to play a hide and seek game and steal food or paper when I wasn't looking. I would get mad (pretending) then laugh at her. She would keep doing little things, just to keep me on my toes.

Would you want to be watched all the time? Remember, hamsters are low on the food chain. The more things that eat you, the sneakier you have to be.

Animals like to do things in private. Also, it depends on how you treat him, and what things he does in private. Our hamsters would never eat or drink in front of us until we'd had them quite some time. And they generally do not go to the bathroom before you. Before your eyes, I mean.

He thinks he can get away with it when you are not watching.
Animals are smart, you know.
