I finally decided that I will major in Theaters in Spring 2007, despite my 1st Bachelor in Computer, which will be a whole new direction for me. My problem is, I am 5'5 in height which I think may be a problem and also, I have no experience. Keep in mind I am 23 years of age which is another factor that contributes to the problem.

There is no problem with either your height or your age.

I'm in my late 40's didn't get back into acting until I was mid 30's. My boyfriend is near my age and only 5'2".

We both work. I did 6 shows this year, he did 4.

Go for it!

I'm 5'6" - too tall to be a petite model and too short to be a regular model. *Sigh* However, I've no trouble working as an actor.

As for the experience thing, well, you need it. Run, don't walk, to your local community theatre. If you live a medium-sized city, you probably have one or two. Even smaller communities usually have *someone* doing Christmas pagents or dinner theater. Larger cities will have several amateur and/or semi-professional theatre groups where you can get your feet wet.

Audition for parts. Volunteer to help with the stage crew. Ask to watch the tech crew and see what they can teach you. Read plays! Watch plays! And I mean live theater -- movies are a different discipline. The actor's life is *not* for everyone. You may discover that your skill and passion lie in another part of the theatrical world - producing, directing, set or costume design, lighting, writing, music, or graphic design (advertising, posters, programs, etc.).

Good luck!

Both Michael J. Fox and Humphrey Bogart were the same height 5' 4"
Brian Dennihy didn't start until his late 30's, and Robert Mitchum didn't start til his late 20's after getting out of the marines after the war.

Work with who and what you are, as any actor must.
