All living cells contain DNA because DNA is the biological substrates use to contain and hold important sequences (or messages) which tells the cells what proteins to make, when to make them, and where to make them. Most of what makes up a cell originates from DNA.
A very simple way to view DNA is to picture DNA as a manual of instructions. The cells need this manual in order to survive and know how to make their proteins. Without their manual, they wouldn't know how to make proteins and would thus die as a result.

DNA contains the genetic blueprints that allow the cell to synthesize the functional products it needs to support itself. For instance, DNAs are the initial molecules that code for proteins. Proteins are the necessary component of almost all cells and organelles, primarily in function but also in structure. Additionally, DNA is passed on from generation to generation. Without it, we would not have higher organisms, or even be able to produce viable offspring.

Think of DNA as a blueprint for the body and all related parts. DNA is the instruction set that defines how you will look, what gender you are, how tall you will become, and numerous other specifics of the human genome. Without DNA we would be little more than a puddle of goo on the ground.

DNA is the blueprint of a cell. Without it the cell would not know what it is or what it should be doing nor could it replicate itself.

The DNA is the instructions for the order of amino acids in proteins. Proteins pretty much do everything in cells.
They are the blueprints, effectively (The DNA that is).

All cells (except RBCs) have DNA, it is needed so that they can reproduce themselves. They copy their DNA and split. It also tells the cell what it does, when and why.
