I am not sure if he is dead yet but this is information I have retrieved.
Fidel Castro 'near death'From correspondents in Washington
December 15, 2006 06:34pm
CUBAN President Fidel Castro is very ill and close to death, US Intelligence chief John Negroponte has told The Washington Post.
"Everything we see indicates it will not be much longer ... months, not years,'' Mr Negroponte told the paper.
The Cuban leader, 80, has not appeared in public since he underwent emergency intestinal surgery and temporarily handed over the presidency to his younger brother, Raul Castro, on July 31.
Castro has been in power since 1959.
A delegation of 10 US lawmakers who favour easing sanctions against Communist-run Cuba was due to arrive in Havana today for a three-day visit.
The delegation has asked to meet with the acting president who has said he is open to talks with Washington.

No he has not he is sick and being very reclusive. His brother is running the cointry in his absence. He may be dying or even dead and noone knows as he has not been seen in weeks. Yet even in such a tight government if their leader was truly dead the world would know. What you may have seen or ehard is that cubans world wide were celebrating the transfer of power in cuba to fidel's brother. Yet as far as the cuban governemtn is considered he is sick and I'm not even sure if they will disclose what illness he has but due to his illeness he felt the need to temporary transfer power to hsi heir Rual

He has not died yet, but John Negroponte - Director of National Intelligence - announced yesterday that it is only a matter of months before he does pass. I hate to say it, but between Fidel and his Brother Raul, Fidel would be the best for Cuba. Raul has turned out to be more brutish and oppressive than his older brother. He wants to open communications with the U.S., but we won't until they let go of communism and open the door for democracy and freedom, which is how it needs to be.

If so, that would be good, as the US might re-open relations with Cuba. If we're willing to work with another communist country (China) but not Cuba- isn't that hypocrisy? I think it was a grudge against Castro.
but, as of yet, I have seen no reports of his demise, and I read the news first thing every morning and check back every couple of hours when I'm at the computer.

Well he hasn't spoken in a long time and he has been gravely ill so there is a big chance that he died. But I don't know, in my opinion he died.

I haven't heard anything to that effect and since I'm in Miami and all is quiet, I would think that he's still alive.

Not sure, and if he is dead, the liar Communists aren't going to tell us until it behooves them to do so.
When he does die, however, I will be dancing in the streets.
