Yes, yes they were. Also, the country was very divided over whether or not it was good for them.
I guess it is true that one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. Although dumping tea is a bit less violent than killing people by flying planes into towers.
Before I get a million thumbs downs, no, I do not think 9/11 was permissible - yes, I hate the people who did it and I still cry every single 9/11 thinking of the loss - no, as evidenced above, I do not think the revolutionaries are on par with Osama's people.
It is correct that the term was not coined until later, but the idea was the same. If England had the word terrorist, yes, they would have used it.
No one is saying terrorists should run America, he's just bringing up an interesting point.

I am sorry, but you are wrong. The British considered the Americans who took part in the revolution rebels not terrorists. Much like the North referred to supports of the Confederacy as rebels.
In fact, many modern historians now refer to the American Revolution as the second British Civil War, drawing comparisons between the fighting of the colonist for freedom against tyranny and the battle between the British people and an autocratic monarchy during the 1640s and 1650s.
Moreover, as another poster has already pointed out, the term and practice of "Terrorism" is a modern concept that did not exist in the latter have of the 18th Century.
There is no comparison between the struggle for freedom from authoritarianism that the American colonists endured and the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Furthermore, these Terrorists do not want freedom for their people, their end goal is world theocratic authoritarian state, resulting in no freedoms for anyone.

The term terrorist is a recent, 20th Century Term. The Founding Fathers and other Patriots were referred to as Revolutionaries, by the people supported their cause, and rebels, by the people who opposed their cause. Patriots did not attack and kill innocent civilians to achieve their freedom. They did tar and feather tax collectors and other government officials.
The Tactics of the Terrorists today in no way resemble the tactics of the American Revolution.
Did you know there was a sizable percentage of English who supported the American Revolution causes?

Apples and oranges. I don't think the founding fathers wanted to kill people just because they thought they had a superior religion or race. It was more like fighting for freedom, which terrorists don't care anything about, and before you side with them, you should consider the fact that they would kill you, but not before raping your wife or daughters right in front of you, or cutting you sons head off while he was laying in your lap, then you die.
That's what I don't understand about some people, especially from the left, seem to sympathize with these people. The left doesn't like the conservative right, but islamic fundamentalists are 10000 miles further to the right than USA conservatives, but they don't see that.
We should fight until we win, even if I have to go myself. I'd rather do that than my children and grandchildren having to do it.

They were called revolutionaries (and rebels, because they rebelled against English lords ruling over the colonies.) not terrorists. Get your facts straight before posting a question.
And there is no comparison to the American revolutionaries and the terrorists. So be quiet and go sit in the corner with a few good history books written before you were born.

Actually the term terrorist wasn't coined until the 1900's. During the American Revolution, American's were considered...revolutionaries. Nice try though.

i'm no longer a large fan of "nationalizing" any business enterprise. we've not any suitable to take those companies removed from the corp. that own them. the final ingredient we want is to nationalize corp. it relatively is one substantial step in direction of communism. u.s. is outfitted on capitalism and that i think of it relatively is the terrific gadget for a democracy.

Good point...and agitaors, unpatriotic, etc. It's amazing to hear some of the whining in here regarding the last election (US). Gawd, did we Dems gripe this much after Gore lost? If so, let me apologize on behalf of the party. Whew.
