My friend just bought a laptop (I believe its was stolen) but when he starts up the laptop he must enter a password for Windows in order to even get to the desktop. Is there anyway he could get around this or is there any way to erease the entire hard drive. He can not get access to the desktop screen because of the password that keeps popping up

Actually I use a handy disk that boots you to a Linux environment where you have a pretty easy to use password reset option for xp, 2000, nt. Below is an article that explains it.

The best thing is to reformat and put your own fresh system on so you don't have to deal with someone elses crap. I would also report this machine to the police so they can record the serial number and help the person who lost it recover it, but if you get it to boot with the information above, you can do that yourself!

You can get the pass word from the customer service who installed the programs. Just try by clicking the return button. It may work if no password has been entered. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

You have a password in BIOS that you will have to reset. The BIOS password is stored in CMOS memory that is maintained while the PC is powered off by a small battery, which is attached to the motherboard. If you remove this battery, all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost. You will need to re-enter the correct CMOS setup information to use the machine.

On a Mac, shift/manipulate/three takes a image of the reveal. If you press shift/manipulate/four, you'll click on and drag over the subject you wish; the image is taken while you unlock the mouse button.
