There are legless lizards called "glass lizards" (so called because their tail can crumble like shatered glass when grasped firmly).

Some sand skinks are also legless or nearly legless.
Glass lizards and sand skinks are both native to the western USA, albeit very elusive and rarely encountered.

Their distinction from snakes is that they possess external ear openings and moveable eyelids -- snakes have neither. Also in legless lizards the tail comprises the majority of their body length. In snakes the tail is rarely more than 20% of the body length.

Certain closely related species can mate and produce live offspring, such as lions and tigers, horses and zebras, etc. However what distinguishes one species from another is the failure to produce offspring that can survive, prosper, and go on to make the original miscegenation perpetrators grandparents. I suppose if humans can do it with farm animals then snakes and legless lizards could sleep together, but nothing would come of it since they are not THAT closely related.

There are such things as legless lizards they have basically the shoulder bone but you can not see it They are the evelutionary middle man between snake and lizard Google it. They are not native to america though so if you live in USA and "found" it it is a snake.

It could be. there are four species in the US. One way to tell is to see if the *** is in the middle of the underside or near the very end. if its in the middle its a lizard. also does it have a blunt tail? If it does its probably a lizard.

I don't know what it could be other than a snake.

Definition of Lizard: relatively long-bodied reptile with usually two pairs of legs and a tapering tail.

Definition of Snake: limbless scaly elongate reptile; some are venomous.
